William J. Link, PhD (Chairman)
Managing Director, Versant Ventures

Dr. Link specializes in early-stage investing in medical devices at Versant. Prior to co-founding Versant Ventures, he was a general partner at Brentwood Venture Capital. He has a proven record of building and operating large, successful medical product companies. With extensive knowledge of medical devices, particularly in ophthalmology, his operating experience spans more than 23 years in general management in the healthcare industry.

Dr. Link was the founder, chairman and CEO of Chiron Vision, a subsidiary of Chiron Corporation specializing in ophthalmic surgical products, which was sold to Bausch and Lomb in 1997. Prior to Chiron Vision, he founded and served as President of American Medical Optics, a division of American Hospital Supply Corporation, which was sold to Allergan in 1986.

While at Brentwood, Dr. Link invested in a number of early-stage companies, including Eyeonics (private), Genyx (sold), IntraLase (sold), Intra Therapeutics (sold), OraMetrix (private) and Refractec (private). His Versant investments besides Neurotech include AcuFocus, Cameron Health, Confirma, ForSight, Glaukos, Inogen, NeoVista, Rox Medical, Second Sight and Wavetec.

Before entering the healthcare industry, Dr. Link was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at the Indiana University School of Medicine. He earned his bachelor's, master's, and doctorate degrees in mechanical engineering from Purdue University. In February 2002, the Orange County Engineering Council named him "Engineer of the Year."

Edward Danse
President and Chief Executive Officer, Neurotech

Mr. Danse was named President and CEO of Neurotech in 2005. He has 30 years of life science industry experience, with over 20 years in the ophthalmic industry. Previously he was President and CEO of the US ophthalmic pharmaceutical company ISTA Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ: ISTA) and was responsible for taking the Company public in 2000. Mr. Danse also held various senior positions in Allergan where he was responsible for establishing a high-growth, profitable business operation in Japan and Asia, including several successful corporate acquisitions. His early career was spent in business development roles at Coopervision, Bausch & Lomb and Schering-Plough. He has also served as a director on the boards of several development-stage ophthalmic companies. Mr. Danse holds an MBA from Thunderbird School of Global Management in Glendale, Arizona.

Bryant E. Fong
Managing Director, Burrill and Company

Mr. Fong joined Burrill & Company in 1998. In his first year at Burrill & Company, he worked as a consultant/merchant banker advising biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies on strategic partnering and M&A transactions. Since 1999, he has been focused on sourcing, evaluating and investing in biotechnology companies through the Burrill funds. He currently serves on the Boards of Catalyst Biosciences, Cengent Therapeutics, Pharmasset and Elbion. Prior to joining Burrill & Company, Mr. Fong held positions as a biochemist and molecular biologist with two early stage biotechnology companies located in the San Francisco Bay area. His research experiences include recombinant protein expression in yeast, development of linear artificial chromosomes and catalytic RNA technology. He earned his bachelors degree with distinction and honors in molecular and cell biology-biochemistry from the University of California, Berkeley.

Elkan R. Gamzu, PhD
Interim Chief Executive Officer, Epix Pharmaceuticals; past CEO, Cambridge Neuroscience

Dr. Gamzu has been a Director of Neurotech since May 1999. Dr. Gamzu is currently the interim CEO of Epix Pharmaceuticals, Inc. He is a Principal of enERGetics, a biopharmaceutical consulting company and is one of the founders of BioPharmAnalysis, LLC, a due diligence company. Dr. Gamzu has been CEO of Pharmos Corporation, Acting Head of Clinical Development for Hypnion, Inc. and Vice President of Product Management Leadership for Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Prior to that, he was President and CEO of Cambridge NeuroSciences, Inc. and Vice President, Drug Development for Warner-Lambert's Parke-Davis Pharmaceutical Research Division, where he was responsible for the development of (Cognex®) for the treatment of Alzheimer's Disease, and Neurontin® for the treatment of epilepsy. Dr. Gamzu is widely published and has served on the editorial boards of several leading neuroscience and pharmacology publications.

Laurent Ganem, MD, MBA
Founder and Managing Director, G Square Capital

Dr. Ganem recently founded and serves as the Managing Director of G Square Capital in Paris, France. Dr. Ganem was previously Director of Apax Partners until 1994 where he was responsible for investments in healthcare and biotechnology. He began his career in the US at Baxter International and founded a company specializing in life science technology transfers in France, where he was General Manager until 1993. He also serves on the board of directors of Hybrigenics, Neuro3D, Synt:em, Galapagos, Newron, Biolipox and CoreValve. He is a graduate of the Paris University of Medicine. He also obtained an MBA from Columbia University, New York.

Lutz Giebel, PhD
Managing Partner, SV Life Sciences

Dr. Giebel joined SVLS as a Venture Partner in 2001 and is based in San Francisco. Prior to SVLS he was a Managing Partner of Didyma, LLC, a biotechnology management consulting firm. Lutz was Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of CyThera Inc., Founder and Chief Operating Officer of ExSAR and was Founder and Vice President of Research of MetaXen, LLC, now part of Exelixis. He joined Arris Pharmaceutical, now part of Celera, as the first biologist and subsequently held various management positions, including Senior Director of Molecular Biology. He also serves on the boards of Avera, Sapphire Therapeutics, Alba, Lux and the University of Colorado Human Medical Genetics Program. He received his PhD in Molecular Biology at the University of Heidelberg, Germany and did his post-doctoral studies in human genetics at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

David Guyer, MD
Partner, SV Life Sciences; past Chief Executive Officer and co-founder, Eyetech

Dr. Guyer was most recently the CEO, Co-Founder and a Director of Eyetech Pharmaceuticals, Inc. prior to the Company’s acquisition by OSI Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in 2005. Eyetech Pharmaceuticals, Inc. specialized in the development and commercialization of novel therapeutics to treat diseases of the eye. There, he led the firm through a series of events representative of the life cycle of a venture-backed portfolio company. These included closing private financing rounds totaling approximately $170 million, completing a $157 million initial public offering and a secondary financing. The Company also developed and gained FDA approval for Macugen, a product to treat macular degeneration, which Eyetech partnered with Pfizer in a deal valued at over $750 million. This product achieved net sales of $184 million in its launch year, one of the top 8 percent of all recorded pharmaceutical launches. OSI Pharmaceuticals subsequently acquired Eyetech in a deal valued at $935 million. Prior to founding Eyetech, Dr. Guyer was professor and chairman of the department of ophthalmology at the NYU School of Medicine.
